Advanced Training

Introduction

Dogs that have achieved a certain level of control are invited to the advanced class.  This is typically smaller than the basic class and more one-to-one instruction is provided.  There is discussion and advice for those training their dogs for competition.

Where, When and How Much?

The advanced class is held each Monday evening except Bank Holidays (please refer to thecalendar) and August and December when we are closed, at Chieveley Village Hall (indoors), starting at 8:30pm. The session lasts about 30 minutes. It is recommended that you arrive 15 minutes earlier to give your dog a chance to settle. There is a playing field behind the Hall to let the dogs run off a little steam before the class.

In order to attend a class, you must be a member of the society and membership costs £15.00 per person per year while each session costs £2 per dog.  We can accept cash but sorry, no credit nor debit cards.  Before you can attend a class we will need to assess your dog so we can advise the most suitable class.  Please email: millskate@outlook.com so she can send you an assessment form for completion and advise of the next available assessment slot.

Once a member, you and your dog can drop-in on these classes whenever they are run (seecalendar). There is no requirement to have attended previous classes.

What to Bring

For each class, we recommend that you bring along:
  • Your dog wearing a collar
  • A lead(preferably leather but definitely not chain or extendable please)
  • A bag of small treats
  • A favourite toy
  • A retrieve article - normally a wooden or plastic dumbell (can be purchased from the Society)
  • Clean up materials
We also suggest that you wear trousers and comfortable shoes.

Restrictions

For the safety of your dog and others, we require the full course of vaccinations to be completed prior to attending.  Additionally, we cannot allow bitches in season.
